Last week at VMware Explore 2023 in Barcelona, IGEL showcased how our Secure Enterprise Endpoint OS (IGEL OS) secures modern enterprise environments in partnership with VMware.

Our experts, including CTO Matthias Haas, Vice President of Sales Brian Cornell, Vice President of Vertical Solutions James Millington, and Claudio Nessi, Regional Vice President, were on hand to share insights with organizations attending the event on how to manage endpoint security and cloud applications while saving money.

Some of the key takeaways our team took from the event include:

  1. The elephant in the room. We all know changes are coming at VMware and that, unfortunately, people will be affected. But what was encouraging from an EUC perspective was a signaling of the continued innovation and investment in the Workspace ONE and Horizon platforms.
  2. Optimizing the journey to the cloud. The multi-cloud story applies to end-user compute as well as the data center. Whether through a journey directly from on-premises deployments to DaaS, or split strategies of bursting to the cloud for additional scale or disaster recovery (DR), organizations are looking for flexibility to move between environments easily. Having an endpoint designed for simplicity that can be easily reconfigured to connect to a new desktop environment is critical to the success of these projects.

Download our solution brief, “11 Reasons to Choose IGEL Enterprise Endpoint OS 12 for VMware Workspace ONE and Horizon 8.”

  3. Endpoint security. Security has long been a benefit of virtual desktops. The ability to reboot to a clean image is instrumental in getting organizations up and running in the event of a successful attack. But the benefits of this can be lost if the endpoint doesn’t share the same reboot to clean approach. IGEL’s Preventive Security Model eliminates endpoint vulnerabilities and enables centralized management of IGEL endpoints from the IGEL Universal Management Suite (UMS), regardless of physical location. IGEL and VMware Horizon are among the most resilient IT infrastructures to combat ransomware and other malware.
  4. Partnerships. Seeing such a great turnout of partners – and friends was great. The integrations between Workspace ONE and Horizon platform and the rich partner ecosystem help our end customers deliver meaningful solutions for specific use cases, such as healthcare. IGEL’s newly announced integration with Workspace ONE Identity Services is one example of a customer-driven partnership where we delivered the right user experience to solve specific workflow issues.
  5. User Experience and Cost Optimization. Digital employee experience is a hot topic for many organizations – and we agree. In fact, we’d be very appreciative if you’d take two minutes to fill out the survey we are running with our partner, LG. Ensuring simple, consistent access without delays, distractions, or security issues is core to our Secure Enterprise Endpoint OS. As budgets tighten and organizations look for ways to support innovations like DaaS, Cloud, and SaaS (and working out how to incorporate AI!), optimizing your endpoint for the cloud is a critical part of this strategy.

Download our solution brief here to learn how IGEL and VMware make the “perfect pair” for easy, safe, and cost-effective end-user computing for today’s modern enterprises.

As we return from our Thanksgiving break in the US, with year-end upon us, I look back and reflect on a very unique year. Who would ever have foreseen the overnight transition to remote selling and marketing back in March? We all felt the uncertainty of the new environment and the effect it had on our pipeline in Q2… but by mid-summer, our customers had adapted and settled into a new cadence.

In fact, COVID hasn’t stopped the digital transformation journey that many of our customers are on. I was reading a recent IDC study on the technology investment trends for the future enterprise that will continue to drive digital transformation. One of the trends – creating digital parity – jumped out at me!

  • By 2022, an additional $2 billion will be spent on desktop- and workspace-as-a-service by the G2000, as 75% incorporate employees’ home network/workspace as part of the extended enterprise environment.
  • By 2023, 75% of the G2000 will commit to providing technical parity to a workforce that is hybrid by design rather than by circumstance, enabling them to work together separately and in real-time.
  • Furthermore, for our biggest industry, healthcare, IDC predicts that providers are set to increase spending by 70% on connected health technologies by 2023.

IGEL products and solutions are perfectly aligned with driving innovation in desktop- and workspace-as-a-service applications! Ease-of-use and security are key tenets of IGEL’s strategy, and with a $2B addressable market in front of us, growth opportunities are large and profitable for partners who work with us.

We are so thankful for our partners who were agile and nimble in this transition. Not only did they enhance their IGEL technology skills, they also refined their ability to market and sell IGEL products during this unique time. As I meet with many key partners this quarter to put together business plans for 2021, here are a few illustrative examples of partners who are agile and focused on meeting customers’ needs using IGEL software solutions:

Third Octet is creating a practice called BYOW – “Bring Your Own Workspace.” Focusing on creating IP and solutions to deliver business outcomes for our customers. Their recurring revenue is growing extremely fast with this focus.

Entisys360 has proactively been putting on workshops, bringing in customers to enable them, and at the same time completing all of IGEL’s sales and technical certifications. This is allowing them to lead PoVs in the sales cycle, as well as building pipeline.

Right Systems has been shadowing IGEL on PoVs to get even more skilled to drive successful customer implementations and is building their services revenue as a result. They just booked one of our largest customer deals with a healthcare institution.

MSG has been a strong advocate of IGEL by educating our German customers on IGEL software solutions, trade-up programs, support we provide and our technological leadership, as well as providing NFR licenses for customers. This has resulted in several customers committing to IGEL and building a nice pipeline for MSG.

Nimble has been doing a great job in focusing on solving for the business outcomes that our Benelux customers are looking for. They have quickly raced through our certification process, getting skilled and now offering a DaaS offering to our SMB customers.

There are many more examples like these illustrating how partners are engaging with us and driving customer success.

I recognize, with the pandemic still with us, forecasting for 2021 won’t be easy. But let’s take it one quarter at a time and continue to drive customer success together. Look out for our new partner program to be launched in January. It will continue to have a strong focus on the enablement journey for partners, but will also offer a set of incentives to reward partners that drive customer success, sales and pipeline.

I’ve been working in Silicon Valley for more than 25 years, and during that time I’ve seen a lot of change happen in this industry. I’ve learned how important it is for a company to have a deliberate and purposeful Indirect Sales strategy – and not be hesitant about jumping in with both feet and committing to partner success. I’m a natural problem solver and love to help people. Roles that worked closely with the field sales team have been gratifying and likewise helping partners was something I gravitated towards. Over the years, I’ve learned a lot about partner strategy, how to align it with the field go-to-market to reduce any channel conflict and equip partners with the tools and compensation they need to be successful. I’m grateful to have been able to hone these skills working for industry-leading companies including Cisco, Adobe, Informatica and ServiceMax.

Furthermore, over the years, my experience has taught me that there are three things that are important about a company – 1) It’s culture; 2) It’s technology leadership; and, 3) It’s market leadership and total available market (TAM). When I joined IGEL, I was able to check off all three, and that is one thing that attracted me to this passionate, high-energy company. But there’s much more to the story.

The culture of Servant Leadership is something I love. The empathy IGEL has for its employees, its customers and its partners and how it wants to serve them to make them successful is awesome. Next, the product leadership IGEL has in the Cloud Workspaces market, and the innovation that it continues to drive is very reassuring. It’s exciting to see the large market opportunity in front of IGEL that will fuel strong growth while also enabling it to acquire new customers and make them successful. This too is very motivating.

Finally, seeing IGEL as a Channel-First company – with its 100% commitment to the Indirect Sales Route-to-Market – and the maturity to understand that we absolutely need a strong partner ecosystem to scale and grow, sealed the deal so to speak.

My First 120 Days on Board

It’s been a very interesting first 120 days coinciding with the world entering unprecedented times with the COVID-19 pandemic. During this time, I’ve spent a lot of time learning about current programs that are in place, the partners we work with and what we need to do to evolve our partner programs to align to their success.

As Channel Chief, I recognize that each of our partners and their customers are on their own unique journeys toward digital transformation that will drive desired business outcomes.

So I thought it would be good to conduct a mid-year survey as well as my meetings with our strategic partners and get their feedback on a few key topics.

Some common themes I heard were:

“Partners give high marks to our Channel team and our Field Sales team.”

“However, they also are requesting a stronger 3-legged approach between Partner sales, IGEL field sales and IGEL channel sales.”

“Partners see customer demand for IGEL products/solutions going up…especially being driven by the need for a secure and easy to use virtual desktop framework….. supporting work-from-home and business continuity needs of customers.”

“The need for a subscription or consumption based model.”

“Partners want a more active role in providing Services.”

“With the overnight switch to remote Marketing, Partners need help in driving relevant digital marketing.”

With that in mind there are five things that I am focusing on:

  • I want us to ensure we have the right number of partners, as well as the right type of partners who are committed to driving customer success, renewals and recurring revenues. By aligning with our ecosystem partner communities including Citrix, Microsoft, VMware and AWS, we can build scalability into our programs by recruiting the right partners, in the right geographies and with the right skillsets.
  • Ensuring that our Field Sales & Channel teams work even closer with our strategic partners. We want to double down on those partners. Their success is going to lead to our success.
  • It will be important to have a motivating set of financial incentives to reward our partners in a consistent and predictable manner. I am balancing the front-end margins that will reward the transaction, as well as introducing back-end rebates to reward a number of items – the sales motions and engagement with the field, acquisition of new logos, pipeline growth and customer success.
  • I want to make sure we are winning the hearts and minds of our partners so that they will become loyal advocates of IGEL. We will accomplish this by training and mentoring them in a purposeful manner that will allow them to acquire new customers and increase wallet share of existing customers.
  • I am working with my colleagues in our Customer Success team to draft a framework and program to have partners enter, and get accredited to provide Support, Health Check, and Renewals services.

I’m looking forward to working with our team to deliver an exceptional partner experience. Despite the pandemic, there is tremendous opportunity for the channel to deliver products and services that support companies in the post-COVID era. IGEL and our 90+ ecosystem partners are here to help!

IGEL partners collectively agree: for virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and cloud workspace implementations, there really isn’t a solution like IGEL OS.

IGEL’s laser focus on end user computing, with simple and consistent endpoint management, and the portability and flexibility to transform any device into a managed IGEL endpoint, make the IGEL solution unique.

Jim Veraldi, Vice President, Data Center Solutions, Ingram Micro comments,

The thing about IGEL that makes them unique is that they’re focused on end user computing. If you look at any of their competitors, it’s a side business for them. But with IGEL all their engineering resources and dollars go into end user computing and that sets them apart for anybody else.”

Matt McKinnon, Enterprise Sales Manager, Forthright Technology Partners says,

IGEL’s real secret sauce is the ability to manage the 10s of thousands from one console. They truly don’t have a competitor in that space.”

Watch their comments on this video: Working with Endpoint Pioneer IGEL on VDI and Cloud Workspaces – Part 1

But the value doesn’t stop at the IGEL solution, partners also trust working with IGEL throughout the sales and implementation process. Partners consistently tells us that we will stop at nothing to enable their success and that IGEL is not only easy to work with but a true partner in every way.

Take it from Vishal Ganeriwala, Senior Director, Product Marketing Services at Citrix, who says,

Citrix and IGEL have been long-standing partners. IGEL is really easy to work with as a partner and we have together brought in many solutions to our customers including the flexibility and low-cost options our customers enjoy especially with IGEL OS…”

Ron Lish, CEO at Cortek Services agrees,

The best part about IGEL is they only work with partners. So, they not only have a great product – arguably the best – but we can trust them in all the deals. They are great in supporting pre-sales and post-sales implementation. They are really someone we can trust both technically and on a sales side.”

Watch them in this video: Working with Endpoint Pioneer IGEL on VDI and Cloud Workspaces – Part 2

If you’re a partner supporting the rapid growth of VDI and cloud workspaces, learn more about the IGEL partner program today. We are committed to drive 100% of our sales through the channel and in doing so support our channel partners with robust sales support, marketing programs and passion. Because we know that our partner’s success is our success.

Guest Blog: Blair Parkhill, Director of Products at Login VSI

Last week we announced a partnership with IGEL that enables Login PI integration in a radical new way, giving our joint customers the ability to deploy our synthetic user technology to endpoints around the world. (View the announcement here.) What I am amazed by is the simplicity of this solution and the ability to reduce cost by leveraging IGEL software-defined endpoints. Let’s take a quick look at what this means and how it works.

HEALTHCARE USE CASE

First let’s start with a use case. We aren’t limited to healthcare with this solution, but since it is one of our largest markets, let’s just use it as an example. In this scenario we have several clinics that are all operated by the same enterprise, therefore they share an electronic medical record (EMR) system. Typically, these clinics all start with a practice management system, the one the front desk admin uses to get patients checked in and records updated. If this isn’t ready in the morning when doors open, then the practice will see fewer patients, customer experience goes down and so does revenue. In many practices, the doctors try to see as many patients a day as possible.

The office admins will typically show up just before work starts. They’ll fire up their system and get it ready to check in the first patient. But, what if that system isn’t available at that clinic, or what if the practice management interface is extremely slow? Well, this all could have been prevented. By running Login PI Launchers at each of these clinics, the virtual users will consistently login to the desktop, open the application, run queries, update records, etc.… When this happens 24×7, any availability or performance issues will be alerted to the operations team, who can remediate the issue, before the staff starts to show up for work. The same method can be applied to any practitioner workflows as well. You wouldn’t want your doctors or nurses to have to wait for their EMR apps to start up or update, which again reduces the volume of patients which can be seen in a day.

The moral of this story is that you don’t have to wait for your real users to show up to identify an issue. The synthetic virtual user is sensitive to any change in lag or latency at the endpoint and will report any changes in user-experience within the application workflow.

THE BENEFITS OF USING LOGIN PI WITH IGEL

Ease of use

When it comes to performance testing and monitoring, typically there are some steps that need to be followed to setup the solution. Agents, software, databases, servers, network configurations, discovery, etc.… are all common steps in deployment. What is so amazing about this solution with IGEL software-defined endpoints is that you can take one of their thin-clients or an unused laptop (after running their UDC), assign the Login PI profile to it, reboot it, and voila… your Login PI launcher is up and running and reporting metrics back to the virtual appliance about logon success, logon timing, protocol latency, application start times and application interaction times.

Cost

The idea of being able to double-duty an existing end-point at a remote site, or converting a decommissioned piece of hardware to use as a Login PI launcher is phenomenal. With Login PI and IGEL you don’t need a virtual or a physical machine dedicated to the function of being a launcher. This means that there is no additional hardware cost and due to IGEL being completely a Linux based solution, there is no cost to license another Windows instance.

HOW THE SOLUTION WORKS

Without going too far into the weeds, this solution is enabled by a couple different features. The first is the ability for an IGEL end-point to be able to run software from a custom partition. The second is the small amount of Login PI software that sits on this partition and enables the launcher to run. After these two things are done, all you simply do is create a profile and assign it to an end-point. Of course, you’ll need to have the pre-requisites of IGEL UMS, Login PI and the proper licensing. If you want any help or further details on this implementation, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at www.loginvsi.com.

STAY TUNED

There will be much more to come regarding this partnership and the many great ways to use Login PI with IGEL.

FUN FACT

I.G.E.L., the company’s name, is an acronym for a series of German words I cannot understand, but did you know that the word Igel in German means hedgehog? Hence their brilliant logo!

Voting for your favorite IT Baller Testimonial story comes to a close today!

The final story in our IT Baller Finalist series showcases a compelling story in the healthcare market: Diversicare, a Tennessee-based provider of post-acute care facilities.

After acquiring 22 centers already on a Citrix VDI platform, Diversicare wanted to transition to companywide virtualization and move from outdated fat clients to modern endpoints. Its goals were two-fold: to execute a facelift on old equipment without having to spend heavily on new machine investment, and to lower its IT footprint to enable easier acquisition of facilities in the future.

After looking for an endpoint solution that could integrate with Citrix, was turnkey and could enable integration and standardization across all its 76 centers, in 10 states, Diversicare chose IGEL‘sUD Pocket and the IGEL Universal Management Suite (UMS).

Diversicare is an IT Baller finalist because CIO April Marbury, Shanna Persful, Director of IT Operations, and their team have shown that by using IGEL’s thin clients and centralized endpoint security and optimization they have been able to reduce demands on IT staff. At the same time, they’ve quickly and seamlessly transitioned to a modern, virtualized desktop infrastructure.

Literally overnight, Diversicare can transition a center to modern endpoints by repurposing old hardware with IGEL’s UD Pocket, and then manage all these endpoints with a simple drag and drop interface on the IGEL UMS.  IGEL also provides a secure, consistent user experience for nursing staff accessing Electronic Medical Record systems for patient data.

The end benefit? In the first year of IGEL deployment, Diversicare expects to save more than $600K in hardware refresh and software licensing costs.

“We chose IGEL for its simplicity and support. They delivered on that and much more.”

-April Marbury, CIO Director, Diversicare

The latest in our series of IT Baller testimonial finalists goes along with the spirit of the season: the support Aimar Foundation provides to the Crisis at Christmas project.

Aimar Foundation, a London-based organization that provides technology support to charities, supports Crisis at Christmas, the holiday project of Crisis, the national UK charity that aids the homeless. Over the Christmas period it provides various services to more than 4,000 homeless.

Last year, Aimar Foundation set up an IT network in just two working days, quickly deploying300 IGEL UD3 thin clients to deliver Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops. The IGEL endpoints enable Crisis volunteers to communicate and identify shelter locations for homeless people, as well as allow homeless visitors to communicate with friends and family, seek employment or otherwise improve their situation.

Aimar Foundation was chosen to be an IT Baller finalist because Simon Clark, Aimar Foundation CEO, and the project’s IT teams have proven IGEL’s endpoint solutions are nimble, simple and fast to install. Plus, they are secure and reliably provide support 24 x 7.

Combined with IGEL’s Universal Management Suite (UMS) software, the IGEL UD3 thin clients support nine Crisis at Christmas locations in London, and other locations in the U.K.  The remote management features of the IGEL UMS wind up saving volunteers valuable time, which can be better spent on serving the homeless.  Another benefit is the IGEL UD3’s Skype video conferencing application which provides much needed face-time for the homeless and their families. Lastly, the IGEL UD3’s small form factor enables fast decommissioning and repackaging once the holiday season ends.

“The IGEL thin clients are ideal for Crisis at Christmas because they are simple and fast to set-up using centralised management software, secure because all data is held on central servers and reliable because they have no fan or moving parts.”

-Simon Clark, CEO, Aimar Foundation

For our latest look at the IT Baller Finalist testimonials, consider the story of Toppan Vintage.

Toppan Vintage is the world’s largest printing group with approximately US$14 billion in annual sales.  Toppan acquired Vintage Group in 2017, effectively doubling its size to over 200 staff, and in 2018 acquired Merrill Corporation’s  Capital Markets and Marketing and Communications Solutions (MCS) businesses. The company needed to quickly scale up to integrate new systems and people, and wanted a modern endpoint security and optimization solution that would support its Citrix Virtual Desktops environment.

Toppan Vintage was chosen as an IT Baller finalist because Thomas Mangan and his team are reducing capital costs, increasing operational efficiency and improving their endpoint security and agility. Toppan Vintage has deployed 150 IGEL UD3 multimedia endpoints and is using IGEL’s Cloud Gateway to manage and provide access to endpoints at its branch offices.

Thomas’s staff is using the IGEL UD Pocket to repurpose its laptop computers to run IGEL’s secure Linux OS and give access to Citrix without having to buy new devices.  IGEL is also providing protocol flexibility and a simple, fast install, hallmarks of its revolutionary endpoint solution.  All of the endpoints in Thomas’s environment are being managed by the IGEL UMS, efficiently controlling the devices from a single console and helping Toppan Vintage scale up without having to add IT staff, a sign of a true IT Baller.

Give Thomas’s videos a watch and let us know if you think he deserves to be recognized as our IT Baller of the Year, 2018.

“We worked with IGEL’s software engineers to create our policies, then plugged the IGEL UD3s into power and our network. The IGEL Universal Management Suite discovered them and did the rest for us.  It was remarkably easy.”

-Thomas Mangan, Vice President, Information Technology and Production Design, Toppan Vintage
